Our last weeks nominated fighter of the week is 125lb amateur fighter Desmond “M80” Moore. Desmond is a veteran XFE fighter and trains out of American Top Team (ATT) Steel City in PA.
XFE: How did you become interested in MMA & when did you start training?
Desmond: I became interested by boxing at the gym and then started to come watch the mma fights. I began training in the other aspects of mma last June when I finished school.
XFE: What does a typical training week include for you?
Desmond: Typical week for me includes boxing, jui jitsu classes, sparring and wrestling and giving youth lessons.
XFE: Who had been your biggest supporter since you started your career as an MMA fighter?
Desmond: I don’t think I could single anyone out, I have the support of my family and my team as well as my friends which mean a lot to me.
XFE: What is favorite and least favorite part of preparing for a fight?
Desmond: My favorite part of preparing for a fight is the week of the fight tapering down and trying to perfect your technique. My least favorite is the actual wait until the fight happens.
XFE: How do you reward yourself after winning a fight?
Desmond: I just take the next week or two to rest and chill with friends and family.
XFE: With a current undefeated amateur record of 4-0, what opponent posed as the toughest to beat?
Desmond: Every opponent I go up against will be tough because they want to beat me up , so my toughest opponent would be myself because I need to make sure I’m prepared to step in that cage and beat anyone who stands across from me.
XFE: What obstacles do you feel you face in your weight class?
Desmond: Obstacles I face are finding guys at my weight class and getting guys who could potentially cut to a lower weight.
XFE: What are your interests outside of MMA?
Desmond: My interest outside mma are playing basketball , dancing and watching movies, I also enjoy helping with youth sports.
XFE: Who gave you the nickname M80 and why?
Desmond: My friend Tammy Santiago-Halpin asked me to come up with a nickname for PR purposes. She told me to think of something that describe myself and I came up with that because of being small and explosive and people thought it was a good fit.
XFE: When can your fans expect to see you return to the cage?
Desmond: I will hopefully be back in the cage in October.
XFE: Anything else you would like your fans to know about you?
Desmond: I would like to send continued thanks for all the support for my amateur career and I hope you all will continue to support me as train towards a professional career.
