Wrestlers ready to steal the show…

With a stacked card containing 2 title fights it’s hard to imagine how a contest between two MMA debutants could be stealing the limelight, but these debutants just happen to be two of the best wrestlers in Australia and at AFC 10 on August 16 Amin Yaqubi and Talgat Ilyasov they will thrown down for the first time.

Amin is the Freestyle Wrestling Coach at Extreme MMA and his resume speaks for itself:

  • Wrestling Coach, Extreme Mixed Martial Arts (Chadstone & Ringwood)
  • 18 years of wrestling experience
  • Multiple title holder in Freestyle Wrestling (Afghanistan)
  • Gold medalist (80kg category), Victorian State Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2011
  • Trained in Australia, Russia, Afghanistan and Pakistan
  • Owned his own gym in Pakistan for 10 years
  • 2002 and 1991: Won the award for the best sportsman in Pakistan

Even for such a credentialed competitor Amin is feeling the nerves prior to his AFC debut:

“Nervous yes, everyone gets nervous, you would have to be crazy not get nervous but I’ve been competing all my life and I know how to prepare my mind and body so that I’m ready for battle. The fans can expect a war. I’ve been training like a mad man and I’m ready to go out there and put on a show”

Amin is one of the most highly regarded wrestlers in Australia; wrestling has been part of his life since day 1:

“I have been wrestling all my life, I come from a wrestling family, and it’s in my blood. I’ve won numerous national and state titles in my home country of Afghanistan and here in Australia”

At AFC 10 Amin will take on fellow wrestler Talgat Ilyasov; however he isn’t overly concerned about the wrestling battle:

“Talgat is a very strong wrestler and I respect his skills but I’m not worried about whose wrestling is stronger as this is MMA. I’m going in there thinking 3 rounds of hard MMA not wrestling”

Amin is so excited to step into the AFC ring that August 16 simply can’t come quick enough; and if he has his away our fans are in for a real treat:

“I’ve been training my ass off for this fight, I’ve had a few injuries to deal with and my training has been alerted because of Ramadan (where we can’t eat or drink from sunrise to sunset for the whole month of July) but i don’t like excuses, ill be ready!! Just want to tell the fans to be ready for a battle, there’s no quit in me. I super excited for this event and want to thank the AFC for putting me on”
