Why Not The Winner?

Anderson SilvaYou’ve probably heard by now that the speculation is Anderson Silva’s next opponent will be against one of the LOSERS from UFC 92′s two Light Heavyweight bouts. Okay, here’s a crazy question… why not the winner? Is this seriously how the UFC is going to market what many consider to be the best pound for pound fighter in the world? And they wonder why his pay-per-view numbers are disappointing. It was even said that the rumored bout between Anderson Silva and Chuck Liddell was no longer under consideration due to the Silva vs. Cote pay-per-view buys being so low. Hello, it’s Patrick Cote! Now they’re marketing an Anderson Silva vs. TBD (one of the losers) match. All of the matchups are very intriguing.  The four contestants in line for what should be their toughest fight to date are; Forrest Griffin, Rashad Evans, Quinton Jackson, and Wanderlei Silva.  I’d pay to watch any of those fights. I’m sure any of them would be much more exciting than Silva vs. Cote.

So, back to my original question – why not the winner?
Wouldn’t a Silva vs. the winner of one of these fights be more marketable? How come he can’t challenge for the title? Again, he is considered to be one of or the best pound for pound fighters in the world. Either way, I’m going to be very excited to see this one. And for the record, if anyone deserves a shot at holding two belts it’s Silva. Do the right thing Dana.  Screw the pay-per-view buys, you’re in it for the fighters right?
