V3FIGHTS: JOSIAH SHIPLEY: FAITH, FAMILY, AND MMA
On January 19, V3Fights will welcome Josiah Shipley (1-0) to the cage. He currently fights out of SOG (Soldiers of God) MMA and will be facing UFK’s, Rick Bing.
Shipley has been around martial arts his entire life. His father has trained in various forms of martial arts ever since Shipley was a child. Then a little over a year ago, he met his coach and V3 veteran, Travis Robertson, and began training at the SOG MMA gym which is located at Whitten Baptist Church where Shipley attends regularly.
On January 19, Shipley will square off against boxing specialist, Rick Bing. Shipley will want to get this fight to the ground, where he definitely has the edge. When asked about how he feels he stacks up to Bing, here is what Shipley had to say: “I know very little about my opponent, Rick Bing, but I’m sure he is an outstanding fighter. I don’t like predicting fights, however, I train to win every time I walk into the gym. Anything else is unacceptable. My advantage in this fight is the amount of dedication and effort I put into everything I set my mind to.”
Even though Shipley didn’t have a lot to say about his upcoming fight with Bing, he did however have a lot to say about his faith and what he feels are the most important aspects of his life… “My dedication to my faith and family has taught me the self-discipline to work hard at everything I do. I love my church family. I also love my coach, Travis, and the time and effort he puts in to help me get better. Nothing is as important to me as my faith and family. I owe much of my getting better as a fighter to these parts of my life. Studying Spanish at the University of Memphis and playing Rugby there is also monumental in my life. The guys on my rugby team push me to be a better player, which translates into my fighting career. I would also like to thank Mullen’s MMA, my coach, of course my family again, and all those that have trained with me. Most of all I would like to thank my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, for my life in total.”
Win or lose, Shipley knows what’s important in life, and that makes for a very dangerous fighter.
