Four Title Fights at the Northwest’s Premier MMA event: Rumble @ The Roseland 69 on Saturday, January 19th
Portland, OR – On Saturday, January 19th the Full Contact Fighting Federation (FCFF) will host Rumble @ The Roseland 69, the Northwest’s premier mixed martial arts (MMA) event. All fights will take place in the 25-foot steel cage, known to fight fans as “The Slammer.” On January 19th there will be four FCFF Title fights, one of which will be a battle between two women for the FCFF’s 115-pound Female Title. The heavy-end of the FCFF weight class divisions will be represented with the current FCFF Super Heavyweight Champ attempting his first Title defense and two top Heavyweights will slug it out for the vacant FCFF HWT belt. Tickets available at Safeway Tickets West or at the door at the Roseland Theater starting at 6pm, with fights starting at 7pm sharp.
The FCFF is often referred to as the “golden gloves” of MMA featuring the top regional talent from the best gym in Oregon, Washington and beyond. The FCFF is Oregon’s first and oldest MMA company/event, beginning its 11th year in business in 2013. Fight card updates are available online at www.thefcff.com.
More about the Title Fights:
Ricky Alcaraz, the FCFF’s Super Heavyweight Champion (265-pounds and above) will make his first FCFF Title defense attempt on Saturday, January 19th at Rumble @ The Roseland 69. Alcaraz first became the FCFF Champ at Rumble @ The Roseland 66 on September 29th 2012. At Rumble 66 he defeated Ernesto Duran via an impressive TKO due to strikes in round number two. Alcaraz also has a win over Quincy Blanton on June 9th 2012 at the “Cage Fights in Tillamook” event hosted by the FCFF. There, he also won via TKO due to strikes, but in round number one. “Ricky is a powerful fighter. He easily has overwhelmed each fighter he’s faced so far,” said Kevin Keeney, FCFF Co-owner and matchmaker. Alcaraz will face Brandon Flint from Aloha, Oregon on January 19th. Flint has one FCFF victory from Rumble @ The Roseland 60. There he beat Nathaniel Huggett via TKO in round number one. “Both these guys are undefeated and both don’t want to lose, this could be fight of the night,” said Keeney.
The FCFF Women’s 115-pound Title fight will steal the limelight at Rumble @ The Roseland 69. “The women in the 115-pound to 135-pound divisions in the FCFF are outstanding,” says Keeney, “we’ve got female talent fighting in the FCFF unmatched by any other MMA event.” Two very different fighters will go head-to-head for the belt on January 19th. Katie Howard of GIRLS gym has two FCFF victories. She stands tall and lean, while Kyra Batara (a relatively new fighter) has one FCFF victory and is compact and quick. “Batara is definitely a fighter to watch in 2013. I wouldn’t be surprised if she turns pro inside of her first year in the sport – she’s that good,” said Keeney. Katie Howard is coming down in weight to face Batara. Howard’s last two wins came in the 135 and 125-pound weight class divisions. On Howard’s MMA resume she has beat Tanya Lasley via tapout due to armbar in round two; and won over Kala Shivers via a round one tapout. Batara made her MMA debut at the last FCFF event: Rumble @ The Roseland 68. There she beat Julia Jones from Everett, Washington via tapout due to armbar in round three. “This quality of female fight can only be seen in the FCFF,” said Keeney.
The FCFF Heavyweight Championship belt is vacant. Two powerhouse fighters will battle on January 19th for the FCFF HWT Title. Tom Groth of Impact JJ will face Paul Sims of 503 WCJJ. These two gyms have both been producing powerful fighters in the local MMA scene and this face-off will create fireworks. Groth last won in FCFF competition at Caged on the Coast 2 in Lincoln City, Oregon. There, he defeated Mike Smith in round number three via rear naked choke. This will be Paul Sims first appearance in the FCFF. He’s fought in other venues and last won at Fight Night VIII: Juggernaut against Joshua Ryan and won in a hard-fought decision. “The crowd always likes when the Heavyweights fight. These guys have heavy hands and good wrestling skills, it should be a great battle,” said Keeney.
Also on the Rumble @ The Roseland 69 fight card is an FCFF Bantamweight Title fight. Jess Moore, the former 145-pound Featherweight Champion has been on-and-off fight cards in 2012. The 135-pound Champion, Dylan Atkinson has relinquished the Bantamweight belt to go pro and has left it vacant. While Moore was scheduled to fight Journey Newson at Rumble @ The Roseland 69, he’s since pulled out. Kevin Keeney is working to find a replacement for Moore to battle against for the 135-pound FCFF Bantamweight belt. Updates will come out daily on the FCFF’s Fan Page on facebook and online at www.thefcff.com.
The Rumble @ The Roseland 69 undercard has many notable fighters to watch out for; like the 135-pound female fight between Tanya Lasley of LA Boxing and rough-and-tumble Cayla Bollinger of Midtown MMA. Also, keep an eye on 205-pound fighter Nate Cook of Rochester, NY who will face Emmanuel Cammarata of Team Quest. More info posted on the Events page of the FCFF’s website: www.thefcff.com.
The full fight card is available at www.thefcff.com. Tickets available at www.ticketswest.com or at safeway tickets west locations.
