Eliot “The Fire Marshall” ended up losing The Ultimate Fighter semi-final fight against the strong wrestling skills of Ryan “Darth” Bader, but has shown the world that he is a true contender with outstanding BJJ technique. Knowing that Eliot was going to be at a local bar in our shared hometown of Boulder, Colorado to watch the final two episodes of TUF, MMA Madhouse emailed some readers yesterday to collect a few questions. With all of the hoopla over The Ultimate Fighter Eliot was swamped but we were lucky enough to have a rapid-fire session of ten Q&As. Below are the MMA Madhouse readers’ questions to Eliot and the Fire Marhsall’s succinct responses…
Reader Q&A with Eliot Marshall
Question from Cliff AKA The MadMan
Are you encouraged by the producers to pull pranks on each other to increase the drama and make things more interesting?
Eliot: Not at all.
Question from Cory
If you fought Bader again, what would you do differently?
Eliot: I would focus more on stopping the take-down and working to get back onto my feet.
Question from Brock
Is Junie as big a douche bag as he seems to be?
Eliot: Yes.
Is Roli is as big a wimp as he seems to be.
Eliot: Yes.
On the show, how long was each day’s training session?
Eliot: Roughly 4 hours.
Outside of the show, how much time do you spend training, both in general and in preparation for a fight?
Eliot: Roughly 4 hours.
Which type of fight do you find more challenging and more enjoyable, MMA or same-style match-ups?
Eliot: MMA-style fighting is more challenging and the most enjoyable.
Question from Everett AKA The Phsychoclown
How did training Soo Bahk Do prepare you for BJJ?
Eliot: Training “Soo Bahk Do” helped with the martial arts aspect.
Note: He did not elaborate, but my guess is that Eliot meant learning one style or art of fighting helps to accelerate learning of any other including BJJ.
What made you decide to get a mathematics degree?
Eliot: I’ve always been good at math and it comes easy to me so it was a natural choice.
Who would you like your first post-TUF MMA fight to be with?
Eliot: Jules Bruchez (and this fight is scheduled for next week)
