CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA, NOVEMBER 12, 2014 – Luke Michael is quietly moving up the ladder in the EFC Worldwide Lightweight division.

Matched up against Regis Muyambo at EFC 35 in Cape Town, on Nov. 6, the Rico Hattingh protégé from REPS MMA scored his second straight victory with a 3rd round technical knockout.

Michael hurt Muyambo in the first stanza when he achieved full mount in the dying minutes of the round leaving the Panther MMA fighter dazed going into the break.  The second round was a back and forth affair with Muyambo looking stronger than the first round. The third round was all Michael who continually looked to secure submissions and mount. Michael ended the fight from full mount while raining down elbows and punches forcing Muyambo to roll onto his stomach, Michael continued to land clean hard shots and referee Wiekus Swart called a stop to the fight with 30 seconds to go.

“I feel like I clearly won rounds one and three but I struggled to land more shots while on the ground, he has a strong grip and did well to control my punches on the ground” Michael said.  “I wanted the finish in the first round when I had him in full mount but I ran out of time”

Michael says he is coming back stronger in his next bout, “I have the best team around me and I have discussed the path forward with everyone and we are going to work harder and get stronger and be ready for 2015” he said. “I don’t want to waste any time so I am starting training tomorrow so I can get a head start on the New Year”

At 2-0, the lightweight prospect isn’t looking for an easy trip to the top.

“I am ready to fight anyone that the EFC puts in front of me and I know I will make it to the top. I am going to keep pushing myself, make no mistake I am coming after that Lightweight title”
