After months of speculation, the much anticipated match up between welterweight champion, George St. Pierre, and number one contender, Jon Fitch, has finally been confirmed.

"Rush" St. Pierre will defend his title for the first time since defeating Matt Serra and recapturing welterweight gold at UFC 83 in April. It will be one of his most challenging matches to date as he takes on one of the UFC’s toughest adversaries and former Division 1 wrestler, Jon Fitch.

The bout will headline UFC 87 "Seek and Destroy" which is scheduled to take place on August 9th at the Target Center in Minneapolis, MN.

Fitch is a scrappy fighter who is on an eight fight win streak in the UFC, something that has only been accomplished by the legend himself, Royce Gracie. St. Pierre agrees that Fitch is top notch and will definitely not take him lightly.

“He’s a very, very tough guy,” said St-Pierre of Fitch. “I’m gonna have to train hard and be very well prepared because he may be my toughest fight yet.”

Former WWE star and two time All American, Brock Lesnar, was originally suppose to face UFC Hall of Famer, Mark Coleman, in the main event at UFC 87 but the bout was scrapped after the "Hammer" sustained a serious knee injury. Coleman, who denounced his retirement at UFC 82, tore his MCL during training. Though the injury won’t require surgery, Mark will be sidelined for a period of six weeks. A new opponent for Lesnar will be announced soon.

Another marquee bout was added to the fledgling UFC 87 fight card this week as well. In a lightweight battle that could easily steal the show on August 9th in Minneapolis, Kenny "Ken-Flo" Florian will take on UFC poster boy, Roger "El Matador" Huerta. Exuding "Fight of the Night" potential, this highly anticipated match up will most likely determine a future challenger for the 155lb title.
