ROAD FC 019 Recap and Official Results
10 November, 2014 – ROAD FC 019 took place on 9 November, 2014 at the Seoul Olympic Hall in Seoul, South Korea. Special guest Bob “The Beast” Sapp made his Cage Announcer debut as an added thrill to a full night of fourteen exciting matches.
The Main Card
The Main Event Middleweight Superfight between Riki Fukuda and Lee Dool-Hee went through a first round of fireworks. Lee landed the first few punches that mattered, and Fukuda took him off his feet for it. Into the second round, they clashed with kicks and one landed as a low blow to Lee. When the action was resumed following a doctor check, Fukuda landed another low blow as a knee inside the clinch. Lee was not able to continue and the bout was ruled a No Contest.
Yoon Dong-Sik and Amilcar Alves played their judo well inside the ROAD FC cage. Both fighters landed the throws and scrambled for positions from there. Yoon proved he was also looking to strike as he stood in front of Alves in the final round. Yoon took a shot then returned his own, ending in the dominant position of being on top. The judges awarded Yoon the Decision victory.
Cha Jung-Hwan and Alexandre Barros brought every ounce of their experience into play for the duration of three rounds. Barros’ kicks were blistering, and Cha’s punches where right on the button. When the action went to the ground, Barros got the upper hand, but Cha staved off his submissions and reversed each time. Cha still had gas in the tank and ended strong on top, giving him the nod from all three judges.
Song Hyo-Kyung welcomed former DEEP Lightweight Champion Emi Tomimatsu to Korea with punches. Tomimatsu returned the favor with clinching and takedowns. Both fighters scored with striking and takedowns plus defense, with Tomimatsu’s ground control edging her ahead on the final judges’ scorecard.
Mun Gi-Bum made his first Main Card match against Lee Kwang-Hee a thriller. He showed great striking with amazing kicks that had the veteran Lee dazed. Lee’s experience carried him through to the second round, where he poured on the punches to Mun against the fence until the referee called a stop to the bout.
Kim Dae-Sung scored the first knock down against Jeon Uh-Jin, but Jeon stood back up and returned fire. Jeon’s takedown ability proved too much for Kim, and on the ground, Jeon worked him over with pounding then transitioned to finish with a Rear Naked Choke.
Korea’s “Crying Fist” contestants Shim Gun-Oh and Frederick Sloan opened the Main Card with a bang. Sloan nearly knocked out Shim several times, but the wrestler came back strong and dominated Sloan on the ground, winning with a submission.
Young Guns 018 preliminary matches
Lee Jung-Kyung wasted no time choking out fellow debuting fighter Park Jun-Young. Kim Woo-Jae’s aggressive takedowns gave him the decision win over Jung Kwang-Seok by Decision. Oh Jae-Seong was in tricky positions when he took down Stuart Gooch, but his activity from the top and his striking earned him the Decision.
BJJ black belt Seok Sang-Jun made his MMA debut against Matsuoka Takasi of Gifu Samurai. Matsuoka thrice dropped Seok with hard punches, but Seok survived and showed his BJJ skills with an arm bar submission. Ha Tae-Woon was well-matched against Heo Yoon, and the two put on a grueling 2-rounder, Ha’s late aggressiveness and accuracy put him ahead on the scorecards.
Tyrone Henderson showed off a very good grappling and control game with a guillotine choke of Yoon Jin-Su. Hong Young-Gi closed out the under card with a lightning quick TKO of Baek Seung-Min.
