At ROAD FC 017, The Lightweight Championship title was won by Kwon A-Sol
ROAD FC 017 took place Sunday, 17 August in Seoul, South Korea as the first pay per view with partner Epicentre.tv live streaming.
The Lightweight Championship between former contender Kume Takasuke and top striker Kwon A-Sol went for a thrilling three rounds. Kwon A-Sol’s dominant finish with pounding from top mount secured him two of the judges’ decisions in his favor. Kwon is now the new ROAD FC Lightweight Champion!
Kume surprised the crowd with his furious striking. He initiated exchanges with Kwon for the first two rounds, and then shot for his well-known take downs. But Kwon’s defense proved too strong. Even in the third, when Kume was able to secure a standing back take and figure 4 body lock, Kwon defended the chokes and pounding until Kume slipped off.
At the end of the final round Kwon secured mount position and fired punches at Kume that were visibly damaging. Kwon earned the round from two of the judges while the third ruled the match a Draw. Kwon is now the new ROAD FC Lightweight Champion!
“Deadly beauty” Song Ga-Yeon made her successful MMA debut against Emi Yamamoto. Yamamoto, a first-timer herself, was unable to trade striking with Song. Once Song clinched she was able to take Yamamoto down at will with spectacular judo throws. The referee called the match when Song mounted and threw numerous undefended punches at Yamamoto during the first round.
Lee Yun-Jun once again proved that his kicks are deadly against Brazilian jiujitsu black belt Thiago Silva. Silva’s shooting was forceful, but Lee defended himself. It took less than two minutes for Lee to earn a knockdown with a body kick which he followed up to pound out Silva on the ground.
Park Jung-Kyo showed great respect for his late notice opponent Kim Dae-Sung in their striking brawl by letting Kim return to standing after a knock down. Kim came back strong and they both traded damaging punches for a second round. Park’s experience showed in the third when he foiled Kim’s throw, took mount, and pounded him out.
Kim Nae-Chul gave a stiff MMA welcome to the cage to kick boxer Yoo Yang-Rae. For two rounds, Kim took away Yoo’s reach advantage by clinching against the cage and landing take downs. Yoo was able to keep the battle standing, however, but the Unanimous Decision deservedly went to Kim.
The Young Guns 16 preliminary fights were all very exciting matches between some of Korea’s up and coming young prospects. Look for these young fighters to begin appearing on the main card soon!
