phil baroni interview

Phil Baroni did some Q&A in the ProElite.com forum today regarding his upcoming fight this Saturday and I had a chance to ask him some questions.

Baroni will be taking on Kala Kolohe Hose in the main event at Icon Sport’s "To Hell and Back" on March 15 at the Neil S. Blaisdell Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. Phil is coming off of a hard loss to Frank Shamrock at StrikeForce in June of 2007. After getting rocked several times during the fight, he was finally finished via rear naked choke after almost two full rounds of non stop action. If nothing else Baroni proved that he is a true fighter and that he will never give up under any circumstances.

Baroni was definitely himself today as he answered some of the fans questions. He even upset a few people, to say the least, with his cockiness and "who asked you" attitude.

10 Questions with the "New York Badass" (courtesy of Todd Yeakle and Jason Allen)

RedSweat: I saw a recent video and wasn’t sure if it was a joke, what kind of car do you drive?

Baroni: I have a nice car and a car I drive to and from the gym. The video is of my nice car. F****** UFC.

RedSweat: Do you want to fight in the UFC again or are you happy where you are?

Baroni: I am happy where I am right now. When I win all of EliteXC’s titles I’ll look to unify the titles later and snatch up the UFC belt, retire to an island somewhere, get fat, lay on the beach and have young chics massage me all day and feed me grapes. Happy endings.

RedSweat: If you could fight anyone in MMA who would it be?

Baroni: Frank Shamrock.

RedSweat: Have you done anything differently to prepare for this fight?

Baroni: I lifted more and put weight back on. I was too light for my last fight.

RedSweat: What will it mean to you if you win this belt?

Baroni: It will mean a lot to me and it will start my year off right. First step in the right direction. A lot of great champions won this belt.

RedSweat: Tell me about the craziest fight you have ever been in outside of the cage?

Baroni: I can’t it’s still under investigation.

RedSweat: When you are in a fight and you feel like there is no more energy left in your body to go on, what do you think about to take you to that next level?

Baroni: As much pain as I’m in and as bad as it hurts… he’s feeling the same way and I just gotta keep pushing cause I know I’ll never quit and most other guys will… so I have to give him a reason to quit. And sometimes when you keep pushing guys find one themselves. So basically just never give up.

RedSweat: Who do you have the most respect for as a fighter in MMA?

Baroni: Fedor.

RedSweat: Give me three words to describe mixed martial arts?

Baroni: Martial. Arts. Mixed.

RedSweat: How much can you bench press, squat, and curl?

Baroni: I used to be able to bench 505 but after I tore my pec I don’t bench anymore heavy. Curls are for the girls so I don’t do em. I’m already fighting the chics off me. I don’t squat heavy anymore. 404 for 20.

Once again thanks to Jason Allen for helping me out with the questions. You will be hearing more from Jason as time goes on. Stick around for more hardcore MMA news!
