After an exciting weekend of mixed martial arts bouts this past weekend on the national stage with Bellator’s light heavyweight unification bout on Friday night followed by another legendary battle at UFC Fight Night with two former multi-promotion champions, Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua and Dan ‘Hendo’ Henderson on Sunday night. It was a busy weekend, but there are plenty of those coming up as spring time is bringing out the local action for fans here in the PacNW!
We are less than two weeks out from a huge PacNW MMA weekend as we have two great events going down on April 5th here in Oregon. This week and next we will be taking a special look at each of these fight cards and some of the top matchups for fans to get frothing over.
This week we are looking at another ferocious Full Contact Fighting Federation event taking place once again at the Roseland theater in Portland for the 77th time.
That’s right, the 77th Rumble at the Roseland.
The FCFF continues to be the longest running MMA promotion in the world outside of the UFC, which has focused primarily on grooming and preparing upcoming amateur talent for the tough professional circuits. Things are a changing though, as the FCFF has another professional fight slated in the main event of Rumble at the Roseland 77 – this time a 115lb female showdown between two top northwest prospects.
Glena ‘Heartless’ Avila is a toughened veteran of the FCFF, who has gone on to professional status and picked up a few quick wins with only one decision loss on her pro record. Glena has recently been promoting the release of a new documentary titled ‘GLENA’, telling the story of her trials inside and outside of the fight world. But with the film now completed, it’s time for Glena to get back to what she does best, being ‘Heartless’ when facing her next opponent.
Katie Howard has been a staple in the FCFF as an amateur for some time now, competing against the very best ladies in the region with many title fights on her record. Now Katie is going to make the turn to professional status, and has a big opportunity against a well known and respected fighter.
Both of these ladies bring a lot of strengths into the fight, well rounded strikers and grapplers, so expect an exciting match between these two – well deserving of the main event status.
Also on the card, David ‘Kid Kryptonite’ Converse looks to be the first person in FCFF history to hold on to three titles in three weight divisions. Converse has already laid claim to the flyweight and bantamweight titles in his last few fights, and now Converse has a chance to try and pry the featherweight title away from Washington’s Jess Moore. Moore and Converse both excel in the grappling realm but have little hesitancy to trade leather and put on a great match for the fans.
Yet again, this card shows why the Full Contact Fighting Federation continues to be one of the absolute best and most respected amateur promotions. So get ready for the action in Portland on April 5th.
Next week we will be taking a closer look at Knucklehead Fight Promotions next big fundraiser event taking place the same weekend in Dallas, OR! Another great card with lots of fun matchups, so check back in next week!
The pacific northwest continues to have some of the best promotions for up and coming amateur talent as well as professional matches from some of the toughest fighters from around the region and beyond.
Here is a list of recent MMA results from the PacNW and beyond, as well as upcoming MMA events taking place in Oregon and southern Washington – So get out there and support your local MMA!
