The Maximum Fighting Championship will be heading to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada in a big way for MFC 40. The fight card, which will take place May 9th on AXS TV (Check your local listings), will feature three title fights.
MFC 38 also hosted three title fights, MFC 39 held two and now MFC 40 will keep the trend going. “Smilin” Sam Alvey will defend his middleweight belt against a yet to be named opponent. Fan favorite Anthony Birchak will put his bantamweight belt on the line. He too is waiting to see who he will fight. Finally Tom Gallicchio and Kurt Southern will rematch, and this time it will be for the lightweight belt.
Gallicchio defeated Southern by second round rear-naked choke back at MFC 39. However, Gallicchio was .2 lbs overweight when he first fought Southern. The fight was supposed to be for the lightweight title but because he was overweight he could not be considered champion. All of this added together sets up the rematch.
As if all of this wasn’t enough, the Maximum Fighting Championship has also decided to bring back #PUNCHTHEVOTE which found much success when first used at MFC 38.
#PUNCHTHEVOTE allows fans of the MFC to decide which of the three title fights they’d like to see as the main event. Birchak won the very first #PUNCHTHEVOTE contest over heavyweight champion Anthony Hamilton and Sam Alvey when the fans picked his fight with Tito Jones for the main event.
