Kimbo Slice: Sports Illustrated Turkey of the Year

HA! Who doesn’t agree with this one? SI.com has Kimbo Slice as one of the 23 “2008 Turkeys of the Year”. Others include; Brett Favre, Ocho Cinco, Mark Cuban, Shaquille O’neal, and Roger Clemens.
SI.com did incorrectly report that Kimbo Slice was fighting for a title when Seth Petruzelli knocked him out, but who cares’s this is still funny and Kimbo’s still a turkey.
Big, mean, bearded street fighter, an Internet You Tube sensation, gets a crack at a title in a hugely hyped mixed martial arts bout after only three pro fights, faces a last-minute replacement and – of course – has his big, mean, bearded head handed to him 14 seconds later. Snorrrrre.

Turkey? Yes, but not in the sense that most others think. I’m still convinced he took a fall and that Ken Shamrock knew the fight was rigged, and that’s why he pulled out. Does it make any since to kill the star of your feature film during the first act – especially when you’re out of production money? No, and that’s why most people think it wasn’t a fall. But what if the Elite XC executives knew bankruptcy was inevitable? What if they figured they could jump the ship with a few hundred thousand or even a few million dollars each in their pockets if they bet against their own man? You have to admit, the whole night – from Shamrock’s withdraw (forced or not), to the fight itself – was FISHY to say the least.
The truth is, I don’t know what happened and we will probably never know. But either way, whether he took a fall or fell for real, Kimbo was a turkey that night.
