The bad luck continues for Joe "Diesel" Riggs who found out yesterday that he will not be competing at tonight’s StrikeForce event in San Jose, CA. Riggs was originally brought in on a weeks notice to replace Shonie Carter in a co-featured bout against Luke Stewart. Carter pulled out of the bout after he shattered a knuckle in his hand during training. |

The California State Athletic Commission was forced to remove Joe from the card after finding out from Riggs himself that he had taken prescription medication a few days earlier. Riggs was informed of the news at yesterdays weigh ins. He obviously did not take it well and was escorted from the weigh in by his agent Ken Pavia. Riggs nor Stewart weighed in for the bout.
Today Drew Fickett was named as a replacement for Riggs in the bout against Stewart. Unfortunately and not surprisingly he was forced to withdrawal from the bout a few hours later. According to a source close to Fickett, contractual obligations with Maximum Fighting Championships will not allow him to compete within 45 days of any bouts he has scheduled with MFC. Fickett was scheduled to fight at an MFC event on July 25 therefore his bout with Stewart was quickly scratched. Fickett had already agreed to the fight purse and was on his way to the airport when he learned that the fight was scrapped. As of now a new opponent for Stewart has not been named. Besides the Joe Riggs ordeal, everything else went off without a hitch at yesterday’s weigh ins. All of the fighters made weight excluding Alvan Cacdac who weighed in just 1.5lbs over the 140lb mark. He made weight on his second attempt weighing in at 141 pounds. Headliners Gilbert Melendez and Josh "The Punk" Thomson made weight without any problems and the championship match up is now official.
