Hayato Sakurai vs Hidetaka Monma (Welterweight bout)

  • Round 1: Things start out slow with a long feeling out process, each fighter throwing a leg kick. Sakurai finally wades in with a big right hand followed by a combination. Monma throws a superman punch that misses and then a spinning back kick. Hayato throws a leg kick and then grabs the muay thai plum. He throws a knee and then takes Monma down. After half a minute of doing nothing Sakurai stands back up. He lands a leg kick that drops Monma to the canvas. He signals Monma to stand back up. They trade and Hayato lands a nice right. The exchange again and Sakurai catches Hidetaka with a left hook that drops Monma to the mat. He pounces on Hidetaka and lets his hands go, landing several right hands as Monma can do nothing but cover up. He starts to land more big lefts and rights until finally the ref jumps in to save a defenseless Hidetaka Monma.
  • Round 2:
  • Final Result: Hayato Sakurai wins via TKO (punches) at 4:12 in the 1st round.

Mirko Filipovic vs Tatsuya Mizuno (Heavyweight "Superfight")

  • Round 2:
  • Final Result: Mirko Filipovic wins via TKO (punches) at 0:56 in the 1st round.

Andre Dida vs Eddie Alvarez (Lightweight Grand Prix bout)

  • Round 1: Both fighters come out swinging and Alvarez goes in for a shot. He takes down Dida. The ref stands then back up. They exchange and Alvarez throws a kick. Eddie gets tagged with a right hand that sends him back. Dida follows up with another big right that drops Alvarez. Eddie takes Dida down and is in the half guard. He starts to drop some punches and stands back up. Dida is swinging wildly. Dida lands a nice left right combo. They clinch in the corner then separate. Eddie starts to tee off on Dida throwing combos. Eddie shoots and gets Andre to the mat. He starts to throw and lands in full guard. He passes to half guard and then into side control. He starts to land some shots. He keeps pounding away in side control and Dida can’t escape. Eddie mounts and starts to unload big right hands. He steps back and starts to unload landing big shots. He takes Dida’s back and then gets back into mount. He continues to overwhelm Dida with punches from the mount. He keeps punching and dropping hammer fists. Finally he unloads one last time and the ref steps in to save Andre. He celebrates his victory with a back flip off of the top rope.
  • Round 2:
  • Final Result: Eddie Alvarez wins via TKO (punches) at 6:47 in the 1st round.

Tatsuya Kawajiri vs Kuitar Gill (Lightweight Grand Prix bout)

  • Round 1: Kawajiri comes out and immediately goes in for a shot. He takes down Gill. Gill throws a couple of up kicks that miss and gets back to his feet. They clinch and Tatsuya goes for a single leg. Tatsuya reaches for a double and locks it in but he can’t seem to get Gill down. He drops down again for a single. They remain in a stalemate. Tatsuya relentless finally gets him down. Kawajiri passes into side control but has yet to do any damage. They scramble and Kawajiri takes Gill’s back. He attempts a rear naked choke but Gill defends and escapes. He slams Tatsuya to the mat and is in full guard. The ref moves them to the center of the ring. Tatsuya continues to go for a takedown and once again gets it. Gill is more active on the bottom. Kawajiri passes to side control but has yet to land a single punch. He goes to north south but Gill stands up. Tatsuya ends up on his back again. He sinks in a rear naked choke but just misses it, then he switches to an anaconda but Gill escapes from that as well. Tatsuya finishes the round on top. I score it 10/9 for Tatsuya.
  • Round 2: Gill starts things out with a leg kick. Tatsuya shoots in and gets the takedown. Kuitar gets to his feet but Kawajiri rushes right in to grab a leg. It is obvious he doesn’t want any part of Gill’s stand up. Tatsuya gets the takedown. He mounts for a second but loses it and they scramble. Tatsuya picks him up and drops him on the mat. Tatsuya has thrown absolutely no punches, correction, he threw a punch but it didn’t land. Tatsuya is in side control but moves to the north south position looking for a choke momentarily. They scramble and the round is over. Tatsuya Kawajiri wins both rounds via lay and pray.

Shinya goes in for a takedown. Gesias elbows what looks like the back of Shinya’s head and the ref stops the fight. Aoki lays on the mat in pain holding his head. The doctors attend to Aoki. They stop the fight and rule it a no contest.
  • Round 2:
  • Final Result: No Contest (Doctor stoppage due to illegal elbow to the back of the head) at 3:46 in the 1st round.

  13. Todd Yeakle on Sat, 15th Mar 2008 2:27 am

I have spoilers too, but I want people to get the play by play. I don’t think they mind if it is delayed a little bit because of the broadcast.

Yes I didn’t mean to say live stream. I meant live as far as when it is broadcast in Japan on TV.

  17. jason on Sun, 16th Mar 2008 3:47 pm

Hey did you know Shinya Aoki has won 2 of his fights by DQ, thats 14%. Do you think its a coincidence?

  18. Todd Yeakle on Sun, 16th Mar 2008 3:57 pm

It’s hard to say. I would have to see the fights. I do think he could have kept fighting at DREAM.1. It looked like he played it up a bit. That elbow didn’t look that bad.

  19. jason on Sun, 16th Mar 2008 5:15 pm

Theres a 9 minute interview with Jz & Aoki on sherdog. Aoki said the ref told him to lift his arm and he could’nt so thats why it didnt continue, but he seems pretty cool im gonna have to get some of the pride bushidos he is in.
