Championship Fights Overview:
Super Heavyweight Championship (265-pounds over above)
On August 22nd Casey Lunzman, the FCFF’s current SHWT Title holder will return to Portland to rematch Rudy Schaffroth. This will be Lunzman’s first fight in Portland since originally facing Schaffroth at Rumble @ The Roseland 77. There, Lunzman won via a round two TKO. Previous to this fight, Lunzman made quick work of Nathan Millsap via a round one KO in only 18 seconds at Rumble @ The Roseland 77. Since, Schaffroth’s loss to Lunzman he’s had two impressive wins that include earning the Budo Fights belt (via a round two TKO in May of 2015 over Logan Hooper). “Rudy Schaffroth has improved since he last fought Casey. This is going to be an incredible fight,” said Kevin Keeney, FCFF co-owner.
Lightweight Champiopnship (155-pounds)
At Rumble @ The Roseland 83 Justin Zabroski of Rise MMA will face Thomas Patrick of Enso Jiu-Jitsu for the vacant FCFF Lightweight Championship belt. Patrick, who is undefeated at 3-0 has had all his fights in FCFF competition. All three of his wins have come from either submission or TKO. He last took on Kevin Walker at Rumble @ The Roseland 81 and won via a round two choke. At Rumble @ The Roseland 80 he faced Erik Kirkpartrick and finished the fight in a round one rear naked choke. Zabroski will make his FCFF debut with three wins in other organizations on his MMA resume. Notably, he faced Jonah Mitchell and won via a round one rear naked choke, squeaked by with a split decision win over Kody Hammond, and finished in round three with a choke over Brandon Nunn at the Midtown Throwdown event. “The Lightweight Championship brings two submission experts together. It will be an interesting technical fight for all the jiu-jitsu fans of the FCFF,” explained Heather Standing, the FCFF’s matchmaker.
Flyweight Championship (125-pounds)
FCFF fight fans will see two new faces in the 25-foot steel cage, lovingly called “The Slammer” for the Flyweight Championship. Joseph Elzea of Everett, WA will face-off against Luis Lopez of Animals MMA, a popular gym featuring five fighters on the Rumble @ The Roseland 83 fight card. Elzea brings seven wins to the Slammer including two in 2015! In July he beat Leroy Rodelo via a round three choke at “The Redemption III” event. He also earned a win in January over Sean Williams via a judges decision victory at “Washington Warrior Cup.” Lopez is returning to MMA competition after a hiatus as a “wild card.” He’s a different fighter then he was in 2012 when he earned two wins in the United Combat Sports league. This year, Lopez fought in an non-sanctioned fight against Chance Gabriel of Fisticuffs and earned a title. “It’s always thrilling to bring an unknown into a Title fight. The FCFF is known for great action and this fight has all the ingredients for an explosive, anything-can-happen scenario,” says Keeney.
160-pound FCFF Superfight
On June 13th of this year, Kweayon Clark completely and thoroughly impressed the crowd at Rumble @ The Roseland 82 with a nine second, round one knockout head kick victory. “You don’t see fights like this but once a year,” said Keeney, “I’m sure Kweayon will make its way in the FCFF’s 2015 Fighter Hall of Fame list with that single kick.” Clark was so impressive that on Saturday, August 22nd he’ll face Angel Espino of Animals MMA for a FCFF Superfight belt! Espino, who has two victories under his belt is looking to make strides this year in the local rankings. His last win came at the “Midtown Throwdown 6” event via a unanimous decision victory over Stefan Habib. His last FCFF fight was at Rumble @ The Roseland 78 against Thomas LaRocque, where he won via a round one submission victory.
