PITTSBURGH – The finishes came fast and furious at PinnacleFC 7 in Pittsburgh on Saturday night, and the night was capped off with Cody “No Love” Garbrandt (4-0 / fighting out of Sacramento, CA via Uhrichsville, OH) earning the PinnacleFC bantamweight title with a first round TKO victory over James Porter (7-3 / fighting out of Ft. Wayne, IN).
The two main event fighters had a heated staredown before the bell, and a torrid pace was set in the opening frame. But it was Garbrandt who was able to capitalize on his strikes, dropping Porter with a knee before finishing with strikes on the ground. The Team Alpha Male fighter has now produced knockout victories in all four of his professional outings, and becomes the first-ever PinnacleFC bantamweight champion.
In the co-main event, Khama “The Death Star” Worthy (6-2 / fighting out of Pittsburgh, PA) put on an impressive outing, stopping Anthony “The Spoiler” Morgan (5-3 / fighting out of Seiverville, TN) with a flurry in the second round that was started with a clean left hook before a myriad of blows ended the fight. Worthy’s win was part of a 6-0 night for Fight Club Pittsburgh, and the fifth win in a row – including three straight knockouts – for Khama.
Justin “The Hawk” Steave (6-4 / fighting out of Weirton, WV) returned to the PinnacleFC cage for the first time in nearly a year, and he moved his record to 3-0 for the organization with a first round submission over eight-time Bellator veteran Brylan VanArtsdalen (9-11 / fighting out of Philadelphia, PA). After powering out of a guillotine, Steave slapped on one of his own, before repositioning his grip to get the finish just 57 seconds into the first frame. The win snaps a two-fight losing streak for the FCP product.
Stepping up on just a week’s notice, Bobby “White Trash BJJ” Emmons (4-3 / fighting out of Newburgh, IN) finished hometown favorite A.J. Bosley (1-3 / fighting out of Uniontown, PA) with an armbar in the first frame. Emmons pulled guard twice in the fight, locking up a nice submission the second time to get the win.
And a pair of former PinnacleFC amateur lightweight champions made successful professional debuts, as both Eric “Sizzle” Bledsoe (1-0 / fighting out of Wheeling, WV) and Nick “NyQuil” Browne (1-0 / fighting out of Uniontown, PA) picked up first round submission victories on the evening.
In amateur action, bantamweight Alec Hohman (3-0), lightweight Matt Patterson (2-0), and Malik Epperson (2-0) all picked up impressive finishes, while Ryan Arreola (4-0), Jaime Chesney (2-2), and Andrew Schrader (1-0) earned judges’ decisions.
PinnacleFC 7 took place in front of a packed house at the Greentree Sportsplex in Pittsburgh, and was also shown to a worldwide audience on GoFightLive.tv.
PinnacleFC 8 is just around the corner on July 12 at the Sportsplex, and the headlining bouts are already in place. Mark Cherico returns to action in the main event, while Adam Milstead (4-1) takes on Georgia’s Nick Smiley (6-3) in an exciting professional heavyweight co-main event. More information and tickets will be available soon.
