Europe’s top amateur MMA promotion hots up with ‘The Battle for Northants’ Fresh from their successful ‘Night of Champions’ show in Leicester back in February, Battle Arena bring Europe’s largest amateur Mixed Martial Arts promotion back to Northampton with many of the county’s top fighters stepping inside the cage. Another exciting night, featuring over 20 contests, is on the cards when ‘The Battle for Northants’ takes place at the County Ground – a venue usually home to the more sedate sport of cricket – on Saturday June 22. The night sees Northamptonshire’s finest MMA practitioners take on both domestic and international opponents, with Kettering Shoot Fighters spearheading the county challenge by sending five fighters to compete. Battle Arena veterans Andy Draper and Rob Vials both return to action for the club. FIVE CHAMPIONS CROWNED AS BATTLE ARENA KICK OFF BIG 2013 RANJEET Baria delighted his home town fans by capturing one of five titles up for grabs on Battle Arena’s massive year-opening ‘Night Of Champions’ card at a packed Club Republic in Leicester on Saturday. The Leicester Shootfighters man topped the 25-fight bill in the clash with Joe Vidler, of Maidstone club MMA Evolution, for the ISKA British 71.5kg belt and did not disappoint the expectant crowd. Baria had to be patient as Vidler looked to take the contest to the ground at every opportunity, but that approach paid off in the third when he was able to lock on the decisive triangle choke with Vidler on top, forcing his opponent to submit at 1.27 of the third and final round. Josh Neale, Sam Creasey, Jake Ocean, Den Palmer, Dez Parker, Phil Byrne, Ryan James and Sam Hill are the men that will represent Great Britain as they take on the best amateur fighters from around the world.
