Niti Technottisasnee: The Birth of BJJ in Bangkok

Niti Technottisasnee: The Birth of BJJ in Bangkok Niti Technottisasnee: The Birth of BJJ in Bangkok Muay Thai is Thailand’s traditional martial art, both beautiful and terrifying.  It also a sport which carries a dark underbelly, much like boxing, and is strongly associated with gambling and exploitation. Impoverished young Thai men are often lured into the sport out of poverty, and fight twice, sometimes three times-a-week literally for their lives, in order to put food on the table, or simply feed themselves. Muay Thai is a punishing sport, but conversely has produced warriors made of steel who almost defy belief with their courage in the ring. The idea of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and any fighting which takes place on the ground is often roundly rejected by the Muay Thai community. “The Muay Thai culture often rejects BJJ because they don’t believe it is honourable to...

What Really Happened Between Kimbo Slice and Brian Green

What Really Happened Between Kimbo Slice and Brian Green Photo Courtesy of Brian Green’s Facebook Page What Really Happened Between Kimbo Slice and Brian Green First off let me say that I am the KING armchair quarterback. I have been watching fighting since it was on TV in Black and White. I am a true student of the fight game that was ringside for the Slice vs. Green fight that took place on March 24th, 2012. I saw every second of the fight from one of the best vantage points in the venue with multiple camera angles at my disposal. The subject of heated is discussion is whether or not Brian Green ‘took a dive’ or ‘threw the fight’ or lost on purpose for money. All I can say is that I was right there witnessing history in the making. An eye witness to the...

WHAT ARE THE ODDS??

WHAT ARE THE ODDS?? November 9/2015 In these modern times of MMA you just don’t know who to believe. The all mighty ZUFFA knows what they want everyone to believe with their consistent over hyping of certain fighters. Casual fans fall right into this trap and that’s what they want. Hardcore fans know the truth! NO ONE IS UNSTOPPABLE! The greatest fighters of all time have fallen and will continue too. Check out this site for tips for betting on mma as I find it the best resource out there for casual MMA fans to really learn the truth about these fighters.   We all know the the UFC ranking system is extremely flawed and favours who Zuffa deems right. Or do we all know? Do they take great joy in making fools of their fans? Or is this a ploy by ZUFFA to trick people into the...

Wednesday Night is Fight Night: Mir Vs Duffee at UFC Fight Night 72

Wednesday Night is Fight Night: Mir Vs Duffee at UFC Fight Night 72 Wednesday Night is Fight Night: Mir Vs Duffee at UFC Fight Night 72 A lot of MMA fans are waiting for the Rousey vs. Correira fight in August but there’s also the equally interesting: The Mir and Duffee fight that will see a young upstart take on arguably one of the most decorated heavyweights of all time. Todd Duffee is hungry to take down a legend, and his wish for doing so was granted in April when the fight was announced against Frank Mir. Duffee will face Mir in what many are expecting to be a very interesting fight with both fighters at cross roads of their career. Despite Mir’s achievements in the octagon, however, age has always been a huge factor in matches at the elite level. Remember the Royce Gracie...

Corey Hill

Corey Hill By Matthew Gaither I’ve been taught that as a writer you should never write from a personal standpoint. I don’t know how to not do that here. So here it goes. News broke locally this morning that Corey Hill had passed away from complications due to pneumonia and a failed lung. I moved back to Florida in 2008. Not long after my Mom told me that there was an MMA fighter living across the street from us. I thought that was cool but didn’t give it much thought. MMA fighters to me at the time were larger than life beings that you only saw on television and would never come in contact with in real life. My mother worked with his mother at a local elementary school which his children also attended. At some point she asked him to come see me as...

Cage Warriors Alumni Having Major League Success

Cage Warriors Alumni Having Major League Success Every major league fighter has to have paid their dues in the regional promotions, with very few exceptions. There are a handful who made The Ultimate Fighter without pro bouts under their belts elsewhere. But by and large when you’re signed to one of the leading promotions you’ll already have the experience necessary to justify your place on the roster. The only definite way to get a call to the ‘big show’ is to keep winning. But there are certain avenues that have proven to be successful time and time again. One of those is Cage Warriors Fighting Championship. Of any European show, Cage Warriors have been regularly sending more of their fighters to the UFC than anybody else over the past few years. Not only that but they have also been having great success. The breakout star of the past...
