Bellator 72 preview: Paul Daley vs. Rudy Bears
Paul Daley has put together an impressive MMA record of 29-12-2, but what he is quite possibly most famous for is a post-fight punch thrown against Josh Koscheck at UFC 113. Daley was immediately cut after the fight, as Dana White said “He’ll never come back, I don’t care if he’s the best 170-pounder in the world. He’s never coming back here. There’s no excuse for that. You never hit a guy like that after the bell”. Since then Daley has bounced around with different promotions, most consistently fighting with Strikeforce. Under the Strikeforce banner he put up a less than impressive 1-3 record, but still at only 29 years old is an exciting fighter to watch. He showed this with his knockout of Scott Smith at Strikeforce: Henderson vs. Babalu. Of Daley’s 12 career losses, only once has he been finished by knockout when Nick Daley beat him via TKO at Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Daley. On July 20th, Daley is set to make his Bellator debut at Bellator 72 in Tampa, FL. He will be facing Rudy Bears, a Bellator veteran with a career record of 14-10. With 5 wins by knockout and 7 wins by submission, Bears has true finishing power. His submission abilities may work in his favor as 5 of Daley’s 12 career losses have come by submission. As far as the knockout abilities, this works heavily in the favor of Daley, who has 20 career knockout victories. Bears, 4 years the elder, as far fewer fights than Daley but still brings a vast experience into this fight. Daley, with the overall better experience, is a dangerous fighter and possesses remarkable knockout power. This is sure to be a good fight, as Bellator 72 is sure to be a great event.
Bellator 72 will take place on July 20th, 2012 at the USF Sun Dome in Tampa, FL.
