Battle For The Border III “Nations Collide” makes its debut on GFL.tv on April 12 from the Cranbrook Memorial Arena in Cranbrook, British Columbia, Canada. Battle For the Border is looking to knock down the door on the world stage as they present their brand of MMA! The 10-bout pro/am card will feature several of the top rising stars on the West Coast of Canada.
In the main event, WSOF vet Mike Kent (10-4) battles Alfonso Gonzales (4-0) in a light heavyweight scrap. Kent is a world class fighter who has always fought top competition. Kent brings a wealth of knowledge and an all-around game into the cage. Kent’s record is littered with KOs and he has only fought to a decision twice in his career. Expect Kent to let the leather fly and earn the respect of his opponent in the opening seconds. Gonzales hails from Washington State and makes the trek north for the biggest fight of his career. Gonzales is an undefeated fighter and has ended every fight via KO or submission. Gonzales is especially dangerous off of his back where he has caught two opponents in a triangle choke. If the fight hits the mat and Gonzales is on the bottom expect him to be throwing up triangles and armbars in rapid succession.
In the co-main event, Mark Dobie (5-6) fights UFC veteran Cody McKenzie (14-5). Dobie looks to get back in the win column after a promising start to his career that notched him a 4-fight win streak in 2012. Dobie is another fighter who likes to take chances inside the cage and his fighting style has made him a fan favorite wherever he fights. Dobie is always swinging for the fences and trying to improve his position on the ground to go for a submission. This will be McKenzie’s first fight since his stint with the UFC. McKenzie spent three years with the UFC beginning with TUF and amassed 4 wins in the world’s premier MMA organization during that span. Look for McKenzie to come out with both guns blazing and stay true to his wild style as he looks to turn heads once again and take home a decisive win.
The heavyweights tangle when Jordan Tracey (3-3) takes on Dan Amyotte (1-0). The fists are sure to be flying in this battle as Tracey and Amyotte are cut from the same cloth as neither fighter has ever gone to decision. Tracey packs power in both hands and Amyotte has the same ability to end a fight with one flush punch. Don’t blink when these two brahma bulls hook horns in the center of the cage. The chances of this fight going to decision are slim to none.
In the amateur ranks, Donovan Hack (4-0) battles Ryan Rohovich (4-0) for the Welterweight Championship. Rohovich holds two KO victories to his credit and both in the first round, while also adding two submissions to his record. Rohovich is a powerhouse at 170 lb and has one-punch KO power in both hands but is just as dangerous on the ground. Rohovich and Hack are both undefeated and this fight is to determine who is number one. On a stacked card, this could be the fight of the night.
