Aleksander Emelianenko Tests Positive for Hepatitis B / Update: Aleksander Denies Rumors in Video Interview

Apparently things are a little more serious than expected for Aleksander Emelianenko who was recently pulled from his bout with Paul Buentello due to a medical clearance issue.

Confusion set in during the Affliction "Banned" weigh-ins, when Aleksander and his opponent were told that they would not be hitting the scales just minutes before they were scheduled to make weight. All that was known at the time was that Aleksander failed to meet the required medical licensing standards to participate in the event.

According to MMANews.com, Aleksander’s blood tests came back right before the weigh-ins, causing the confusion around the stage.

The tests were positive for Hepatitis B which resulted in the CSAC canceling the fight. Hep. B is the result of transmission from exposure to infectious blood or body fluids containing blood. Possible forms of transmission include (but are not limited to) unprotected sexual contact, blood transfusions, re-use of contaminated needles & syringes, and vertical transmission from mother to child during childbirth.

Unfortunately this could spell disaster for the rising Russian star and his future in the sport. It is very possible that this could be the end to his blossoming career.

Paul Bradley, a cast member on The Ultimate Fighter 7, was sent home after a rash appeared on his neck that turned out to be Herpes Simplex. The team refused to even train with him afraid of catching the same thing. Hepatitis B is much more serious, which means he will most likely never fight on U.S. soil again. As for back home, it will likely be the same result.

Update:
During a recent video interview conducted by Life.ru, Aleksander Emelianenko addressed speculation that he tested positive for Hepatitis B prior to his scheduled bout with Paul Buentello at Affliction "Banned."

The Russian Red Devils member denied the rumor and claimed that absolutely nothing is wrong with him physically. Apparently unaware of how strict the CSAC is, he claims that he was simply late in getting his Visa which caused his removal from the bout.

He says that according to the CSAC he was supposed to be tested on 13th. He only received a visa on 14th and came to US on 15th. He was hoping that they would be able to still work everything out – but apparently the CSAC is very strict on everything.

Until we find out the hard facts regarding this issue, we can only speculate. He could of course be denying the allegations to protect his reputation.

We will keep you posted on any new details regarding this story!

    that’s a shame.
    I really like Aleksander Emelianenko.
He had 2 of the top 10 beatdowns on the best damn sports show.
There’s really nothing he can do about this, unless there’s something he can take that will make him not contagious during fights.
This really sucks for him and his fans.

Let assume there is potential opponent for Alex. It takes 2 months training preparation and announcement before the fight .The opponent can be vaccinated against hepatitis b vaccine and is protected 100 percent if he is interested in the fight money and prestige wise. I am not sure how long time it takes for the organism to create anti bodies against virus but I think not more that 3 weeks.

Well I hope your right Zo and thanks for the insight. I still can’t see anyone wanting to take a fight with him, knowing that he has Hep B. I hope I am wrong because I love his explosive style.

I will never forget his fight against James Thompson in Pride. James literally ran across the ring and Aleksander knocked him out in 11 seconds. It was hilarious!

I really would like to see Aleksander fight here in the US, I think he can build up quite a following with his style.
I like how cool he is during the staredowns, it’s like he’s bored to be there.

Yeah i dont see a fighter getting in the ring with him, first for the reason that he has ‘possibly’ tested positive for hep b and 2nd because so many fighters arent exactly jumping at the bits to fight someone like aleks. he is the type of guy that on any given night could and most likely would beat anyone, and he isnt really that well known in the US so it wouldnt garner a challenger that much prestige and attention (other than in the highlights when they show the replays of the vicious KO aleks would put on them) in the mainstream even if they did happen to pull out the win. so overall its just not a very attractive fight to most fighters lol.
