Affliction stock rising – Babalu vs Sokoudjou added to “Day of Reckoning”

Renato “Babalu” Sobral and Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou have agreed to a fight on Affliction’s “Day of Reckoning” card. The fight will take place on January 24th in Anaheim, California along with the headliner Fedor Emelianenko vs. Andrei Arlovski.  Affliction’s second event, much like it’s first is filled with future hall of famer’s and legends in the sport.  Fighters include Fedor Emelianenko, Andrei Arlovski, Josh Barnett, Renato “Babalu” Sobral, Matt Lindland, Vitor Belfort, Nogueira, Sokoudjou, and more!  There were some outrageous payday’s for Affliction’s first event.  They had to make a statement and that’s what they did but I’m sure they know that they cannot continue to operate in that manner – or can they?  The paydays haven’t been as highly publicized this time around so we’ll wait and see if the big money continues.  One things for sure, they haven’t held back on the fight cards.  Affliction’s roster isn’t deep enough to continue this trend but the willingness to work with other promotions will definitely help with the rumored 16 events they plan to promote next year.  Yes, 16 is right, that one is supposed to be there.  It’s not clear how they could manage it but if there are 16 fight cards in 2009 like these first two by Affliction that 800 pound gorilla is going to have some serious competition.
