Affliction “Banned” Live Results and Play by Play

Affliction "Banned", featuring one the greatest heavyweight cards of all time, is set to go off on July 19th from the Honda Center in Anaheim, CA.

Fedor "The Last Emperor" Emelianenko returns to U.S. soil to take on one of his toughest challenges to date as he battles Tim "The Maine-iac" Sylvia for the first ever undisputed heavyweight championship of the world. This card features 5 top ten ranked heavyweights including Barnett, Rothwell and Arlovski.

RedSweat.com will be bringing you all of the live action for this monumental event including quick results and up-to-the-minute play-by-play results for the entire fight card beginning at 8pm ET sharp.

Banned Contest

Rules:

• The tie-breaker will be the round and time of finish for the main event between Emelianenko and Sylvia.

Update: There has been a recent change to the fight card. Gary Goodridge is replacing Aleksander Emelianenko in the fight against Paul Buentello. This means if you have already posted your predictions you will need to repost your prediction for this fight.

Important news, announcements and interesting moments during "Banned"

• "Big Daddy" Gary Goodridge stepped up for Aleksander Emelianenko last minute to face Paul "The Headhunter" Buentello. Aleksander received notification that he had not met licensing standards just minutes before his weigh-in.

Affliction "Banned" Play by Play Commentary

Vitor Belfort vs Terry Martin (Middleweight FSN Bout)

• Round 1: Martin comes right towards Vitor and strikes first with a right hand. Vitor lands a nice kick to return the favor. They clinch against the ropes momentarily then separate. Martin comes in swinging and Belfort counters. They clinch in the corner. Terry lands a nice overhand right. Vitor is staying outside of Martin’s reach. They continue the stand up affair with neither getting in any great shots. Vitor gets through a few good jabs and the round comes to an end.

• Round 2: Martin catches Belfort with a nice hook but Vitor counters. Belfort lands a nice kick followed by a couple of good punches. Vitor lands a nice kick to the body and Martin retaliates with a takedown. After some petty shots from Martin Belfort gets back to his feet. Belfort lands a flying knee that lands flush, stunning Martin and forcing him to grab a leg. Belfort unleashes with a series of uppercuts and follows with a beautiful right uppercut left straight combination that sends Martin into the ropes and down for the count. Beautiful KO victory for "The Phenom."

• Final Result: Vitor Belfort wins via KO (Punch Combo) at 3:12 in the 2nd round.

Mike Pyle vs JJ Ambrose (Welterweight PPV Bout)

• Round 1: Ambrose comes wading in with punches and stuffs Pyle in the corner. He drops levels for a takedown but can’t execute it. Pyle gets a nice body lock and takes Ambrose down with a nice trip takedown right into side control. Mike mounts and Ambrose gives up his back. He starts to pepper Ambrose with punches and then sinks in a head and arm choke. He lets it go but then starts to work in the rear naked. He can’t get it so he starts to reign down some blows. He sinks in the rear naked for a second time and this time JJ taps.

• Final Result: Mike Pyle wins via Rear Naked Choke at 2:51 in the 1st round.

Antonio Rogerio Nogueira vs Edwin Dewees (Light Heavyweight PPV Bout)

• Round 1: Nogueira comes out swinging. Dewees starts to work some leg kicks. Antonio is getting the better of the stand up game as expected. They tie up against the ropes in the corner. Back to the middle Dewees lands a nice leg kick. On the mat Nogueira starts to work some good ground and pound. Back to their feet, Nogueira lands a nice kick to the body followed by a knee. Antonio continues to punish Dewees with knees inside the Muay Thai clinch. Dewees is now in trouble. Nogueira lands some good punches followed by more big knees. He finally drops Edwin with a left hook. He seals the deal with a couple more strikes on the ground and the ref jumps in to stop the fight.

• Final Result: Antonio Rogerio Nogueira wins via TKO at 4:06 in the 1st round.

Matt Lindland vs Fabio Negao (Heavyweight PPV Bout)

• Round 1: Lindland sits Negao right down with a solid punch and goes right into a guillotine choke. Fabio scrambles and rolls Lindland but Matt continues to hold onto the choke. Negao finally escapes trouble but Lindland starts to work some ground and pound. He comes down with a Sakuraba style double hammer fist. He starts to work some elbows. Matt comes down with another vicious elbow continuing to control Fabio. Lindland comes down with a solid punch that has an effect on Negao. On their feet, Lindland starts to work some punches and misses with a kick. A few more strikes from both and a leg kick from Negao ends the round.

• Round 2: Lindland throws a head kick and continues to stalk Negao. Fabio lands a big elbow to the jaw of Lindland. He continues to throw elbows and strikes, starting to find his range and hurting Lindland. Matt comes back with a good combo of his own in he corner. Matt drops him down to the mat in the corner. He starts to work some ground and pound from the half guard. He lands a good elbow followed by a punch. He lands two or three more solid elbows on the ground. Lindland is starting to pick his shots. He comes down with another big shot but Fabio just shakes it off. He continues his ground assault in the corner of the ring. Negao stretches out of the ring and the crowd reacts with boos. The round ends with Matt on top pounding away.

• Round 3: They start to exchange in the opening of the third. Negao looking tired is starting to steer clear of Lindland. Matt drops levels. Fabio has a choke in place but it is no threat. They break apart and continue the striking game. Both fighters are looking exhausted with not a whole lot behind their punches at this point. Negao is reaching with his punches. Fabio lands a kick to the body. Matt comes in for a takedown and they end up almost falling completely out of the ring. The crowd boos as Negao walks around and back into the ring. Lindland lands a big knee that stands Fabio up. He comes in with more punches and they clinch against the ropes. Matt lands a nice left. Both fighters take a break with 10 seconds on the clock. A few more strikes and this fight is over. A dominating performance from Lindland.

Renato Sobral vs Mike Whitehead (Light Heavyweight PPV Bout)

• Round 1: They start to scrap and tie up for a moment. Renato lands a nice kick before they tie up again, this time in the corner. Mike breaks away throwing a combo of punches. Babalu drops down for the takedown but can’t get it. They continue to trade strikes. Renato ducks under a punch and they are back in the clinch. Whitehead lands a knee in the clinch as they barter for control. They break apart and start to trade more blows. Whitehead comes in with an nice uppercut. The crowd start to chant for Babalu and they are back in the clinch. Renato gets Mike to the mat but only for a moment and it is back to the striking game. They trade a few more shots and the bell sounds.

• Round 2: They start to work some jabs and Whitehead comes in and ties up Babalu. They battle for position and then separate. Both fighters land some good punches. Renato is starting to show some swelling above his eye. Whitehead drives Babalu into the ropes and eventually gets the trip takedown. He starts to works some small shots in full guard. Babalu starts to work on a triangle but Mike avoids any trouble. Babalu sinks in an omaplata but Mike escapes. In the clinch Babalu starts to work some nice knees to the body. Whitehead breaks away with a nice elbow and Renato misses with a big spinning back fist. Back in the clinch they work for position. Renato lands another knee and the round ends.

• Round 3: They come out trading and Babalu drops down for a takedown but misses. Renato misses with an axe kick and gets driven into the ropes and out of the ropes. The action is restarted in the center of the ring. Renato lands a couple of good jabs. Renato drops down for a takedown but misses. Whitehead looking desperate keeps shooting in but coming up short. Renato sinks in a guillotine but goes out of the ropes and once again the action is restarted. Babalu lands a couple of good shots. Both fighters connect with some good shots. Whitehead gets the takedown but gets caught in a tight guillotine. Mike escapes and ends up in full guard. Renato locks up the omaplata but Whitehead escapes. He almost walks right into a triangle but survives. The ref stands them up and they immediately trade. The crowd starts to chant for Babalu who lands a nice front kick flush. Renato goes for a shot and works some knees to finish the round.

Savant Young vs Mark Hominick (Featherweight PPV Bout)

• Round 1: Young lands a nice leg kick as the fighters start to feel each other out with strikes. Hominick is light on his toes looking for the right moment. Savant drops levels for the takedown but Mark denies. Hominick lands a good combo. Mark lands a good stiff left jab. He pops him with a couple of more good shots. Savant misses with a big looping right. Mark is stalking Young around the ring. Hominick lands a good straight right and Young comes back with a good body shot. A few more shots and the round ends.

• Round 2: They cut to a picture of Fedor playing cards in his locker room. They trade combo’s to start out the third. Young pops Mark with a nice right hand. Hominick isn’t throwing power shots but he continues to get through with shots. Savant lands a nice kick and goes for a single leg switching to a double. Against the ropes, he drops Mark to the mat. Young starts to work some good ground and pound. Hominick sweeps and then transitions into a beautiful triangle choke. He pulls down on the head but Young picks him way up and slams him down to the mat escaping the submission. Mark has the high guard still looking for a submission. This time he almost secures an armbar but he transitions nicely into a triangle. He switches back to the arm but goes back to the triangle and this time it’s tight. Not satisfied with the triangle he flips his leg over Youngs head and extends the armbar. Young is forced to tap.

• Final Result: Mark Hominick wins via Armbar at 4:25 in the 2nd round.

Josh Barnett vs Pedro Rizzo (Heavyweight PPV Bout)

• Round 1: They start to get loose with some strikes. Barnett lands a good body kick. He shoots in for a lazy shot but can’t get a hold of Rizzo. Josh throws a spinning back kick and follows with a front kick that lands. Barnett lands a good leg kick and Pedro returns with punches. Rizzo uses his lateral movement to avoid some good punches from Josh. Barnett lands another front kick. Rizzo has yet to throw one of his signature leg kicks. Josh comes in with another good kick followed by another spinning back kick. Pedro goes high with a head kick and the round ends.

• Round 2: Josh comes in looking to grab a hold of Pedro. He misses with a big looping right hand. Rizzo lands a good right as they continue to trade punches. Barnett faints with the right and tags Rizzo with a giant left hook that snaps Rizzo’s head back and sends him down to the mat out cold. He finishes him off with a couple of hammer fists before the ref steps in to wave it off.

• Final Result: Josh Barnett wins via KO (Punch) at 1:44 in the 2nd round.

Andrei Arlovski vs Ben Rothwell (Heavyweight PPV Bout)

• Round 1: Arlovski lands a nice kick as they start to let their hands go. He lands another solid low leg kick and they tie up momentarily. Rothwell lands a good right hand. He grabs the Thai clinch in the corner but can’t do anything with it. Arlovski backs away landing a solid punch. They tie up again against the ropes with Ben in control on the outside. Ok maybe not, Arlovski gets the trip takedown. Rothwell gets caught in an inverted heel hook but Arlovski can’t convert. They are back to their feet and Arlovski lets some punches go. Ben comes right back and they tie up again. Ben lets go with a combo in the corner but Arlovski lands some big shots and has Ben in trouble and backing up. Arlovski lands a good leg kick but Ben fires back with a big right and the round comes to an end.

• Round 2: Arlovski comes in with an overhand right. Ben comes back but Andrei returns with some big punches. He starts to reign punches and Big Ben is in trouble. Arlovski takes down Rothwell right into the mount but Ben keeps his composure and regains full guard. Rothwell is now bleeding on the mat. Arlovski starts to work some solid ground and pound. He drops back for the heel hook and Rothwell escapes ending up on top. Big mistake for Arlovski. Rothwell lands a big elbow from the guard. He follows with another nice elbow. He comes down with another big shot. Ben swings away with a few more big shots before the ref brings them out of the ropes. Rothwell is starting to get this round back. The ref stands them up. Andrei lands a big right and unloads with an onslaught of punches followed by a jumping knee and a few more punches to finish the round. Man Rothwell has a hard head.

• Round 3: Ben comes right in and they tie up against the ropes. This is by far the best fight so far tonight. Arlovski backs away and lands a couple of big shots. He lands two more big right hands and Big Ben crumbles to the canvas. The referee jumps in to wave it off and this fight is over. The crowd goes crazy for Arlovski. Awesome fight.

Fedor Emelianenko vs Tim Sylvia (Heavyweight PPV Main Event)

• Round 1: Fedor pounces and lands a couple of big shots. He bombs away stunning Tim and dropping him to the mat with vicious shots. Tim surprisingly survives the initial onslaught. Fedor continues the assault from Tim’s back. He sinks in the hooks, locks in the rear naked choke and submits Sylvia in a mere 36 seconds.
