On Friday May 10th 2013 the Australian Fighting Championship will be putting together the hugely anticipated AFC5 event. Due to popular demand the AFC has decided to stage the start of what will become the format for the next procession of shows. AFC5 will consist of two 8 man knockout tournaments which will be run over 3 events with the 4 winners proceeding to the next show in August for AFC6 and a title fight opportunity in November at AFC7. The weight divisions for the tournaments will be the welterweight (77kgs) and middleweight (84kgs) divisions.
The AFC has sourced the best fighters from around the country and included a number of international athletes to also appear on the card. WFC (World Free fight Challenge) are sending out their toughest fighter in Bor ‘playbor’ Bratovz all the way from Slovenia to compete in the middleweight division and the boys from New Zealand will again be well represented with 4 fighters on the card. Some notable Australian’s to appear include Steven Kennedy from Perth, Zein Saliba, Dan Kelly after his fight of the night exploits at AFC4, The Spartan Vik Grujic and Corey ‘The Major’ Nelson to name a few. Fans will also want to keep an eye out for the up and coming prodigy Jake ‘The Celtic Kid’ Matthews after his huge win over Callan Potter recently and The Bulldog Peter Davenport who are sure to put on a show to be remembered.
As well as the 2 tournaments the main event will be a title fight rematch between Rusty ‘The Wrecking Ball’ McBride up against his nemesis from AFC3 in Daniel ‘The Hangman’ Hooker. Their last fight was an all out war with Hooker taking the honours in a bloodied affair with a doctor’s stoppage 4 minutes into the 2nd round. Now with more fights under each of their belts the lightweight title fight rematch is not to be missed.
Starting the night off the AFC will be continuing their support of women’s MMA with a fight between Lana Kate and Amy Adam. These two women warriors have met before and will be looking to showcase just why WMMA is becoming so popular around the globe.
Making his return to the ring will be the electrifying and hugely popular Ian Schaffa after a 3 year layoff. He will be looking to come out with a bang when he matches up against Kieran Joblin from New Zealand in a hugely anticipated match up.
Fresh from a win at AFC4 Judo Olympian Ivo Dos Santos will be looking to make it 3 from 3 against Rory O’Connell from Sydney. Also after being stuck down with a virus only 24 hours before looking to compete on AFC4, Jordan ‘Showtime’ Lucas gets his chance when he comes up against the skill and power of Fearless Joel Fisher.
It’s going to be a fully stacked card once again from the AFC as it continues to solidify it’s position as Australia’s premier mixed martial arts promotion. The AFC will once again be streaming the fight live on pay per view on epicentre.tv. All the action will be taking place once again at the stunning Melbourne Pavilion in Flemington Melbourne Australia on Friday May 10th, this is a night not to be missed.
