AFC 8 Just Got Super!
On February 22 at the Melbourne Pavilion 14 of the highest quality Mixed Martial Artists in Australia will complete in Australia’s #1 MMA Promotion. You’d think things couldn’t get any better, but they just did because the ‘Super Samoan’ Mark Hunt will be live in attendance.
Fresh off one of the greatest brawls in UFC history Mark will make his way down to Melbourne to watch some of the best up and comers in MMA battle out it on a heated Saturday night.
For those of you that have been living under a rock Mark is one of the biggest names in the UFC Heavyweight Division. He has been involved in memorable battles with Stefan Struve, Junior Dos Santos and Antonio ‘Big Foot’ Silva. Prior to his UFC career Mark was one of the highest profile fighters in PRIDE where he held victories over MMA legends like Mirko Cro Cop and Wanderlei Silva. As if this isn’t impressive enough Mark is also a former K1 Super Heavyweight Champion.
Mark’s presence will no doubt be motivating for all of the fighters particularly for his fellow New South Welshmen Bernardo Magalhaes, Corey Nelson and Daniel Almedia. Mark’s stand and deliver style is very similar to that of Corey who will be striving for an impressive KO win over Rick Alchin. It will take something special to top the feats of the ‘Super Samoan’ however Corey has all the tools required.
Young Kickboxers Joel Fisher and Aden Baron will also be keen to impress Mark and show off some of their sublime kickboxing skills. Mark had some of the most powerful kicks in K1 and both Joel and Aden posses some steel shins that can easily chop opponents down. Maybe a head kick KO on the cards… that would surely get Mark excited!
And of course both of the combatants in the night’s Main Event will be keen to show of their diverse skills. Banjo and Trekko will battle it out with the winner being guaranteed a shot at Daniel Hooker’s AFC Lightweight Championship. Last year Mark was involved in memorable #1 Contenders fight so he is well aware of the pressure that will be on both of these warriors shoulders.
AFC CEO Adam Milankovic is thrilled to have Mark showing his support at AFC 8 – “With the high-level talent the AFC are producing we are seeing a lot of our fighters competing overseas and in the UFC so it’s great pleasure to have an Aussie fighter who has made it in the UFC come back and support the AFC and our fighters”. Adam went on to say “It’s our hope that one day in the near future we will see the cage legalised in Melbourne so fight fans in this great state can see Mark do his thing live and in person”.
So fight fans, only on way to see the ‘Super Samoan’ live and in person – get your tickets at www.afmma.com.au and enjoy the show!
