MMA this weekend
Fri Nov 1 7:00PM ET
Cage Fury Fighting Championships brings top shelf MMA back to Valley Forge Casino in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania on November 1with “CFFC 29”. Pro MMA fighters from around the East Coast will compete on this stacked 11-bout card. CFFC has expanded their stranglehold on Northeast MMA as they return to Pennsylvania for a double night of fights beginning with “CFFC 29”.
In the main event, two TUF alums will square off as Jeff Smith (10-2) fights Andy Main (7-1) in a featherweight clash. Smith brings a workman like approach to the cage with some proficient submission skills as well. Smith lost a controversial decision in his last bout with WSoF and looks to get back in the win column against a serious threat. Smith will try to grind out Main over three rounds and use his cardio to push the pace and force Main into making a mistake. If that happens, Smith could end the fight with a variety of chokes or armlock submissions. Main fights out of the accomplished AMA Fight Club and is coming off a victory in Japan for the legendary Pancrase organization. Main is well rounded with some devastating striking but most of his wins have come via submission. Main has carved out a solid reputation on the East Coast as a dangerous 145 lb fighter and the last time he stepped into a CFFC cage he won via first round submission. This fight is a de facto #1 contender bout as the winner will be in the driver’s seat for a title fight in the near future.
In the co-main event, Paul Holt (1-0) battles Azunna “Zu” Anyanwu (4-2) in a heavyweight shootout. Holt is a monster of a man standing 6’4″ and weighting 255 lb. Holt has crushed every opponent he has faced in both pro and amateur competition. This will only be Holt’s second pro fight, but the execs at CFFC have a lot of faith in Holt’s fighting ability and he has proved in the past that he carries dynamite in both fists and can end a fight with one punch. Zu can match anyone on the East Coast punch for punch and this fight was made with that idea in mind. Zu is a bit more compact then Holt, but brings an equally dangerous striking game into the bout. Zu also brings a solid grappling game into the cage having tapped out 3 opponents already. Don’t blink when these two step in the cage.

Cage Fury Fighting Championships brings top shelf MMA back to Valley Forge Casino in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania on November 2with “CFFC 30”. Pro MMA fighters from around the East Coast will compete on this stacked 13-bout card. CFFC has expanded their stranglehold on Northeast MMA as they return to Pennsylvania for a double night of fights ending with “CFFC 30”.
In the main event, for the CFFC Bantamweight Title, Champion Aljamain Sterling (7-0) fights Joel Roberts (9-4). Sterling won the title in 2011 and this fight will mark more than two years he has held the belt. Sterling is a submission specialist, especially when it comes to attacking the neck of his opponents as Sterling has tapped out three fighters by rear naked choke alone. Sterling comes into the fight riding a wave of confidence and rightfully so as he has been untouchable for a very long time. Having never suffered a defeat and proving that he can go a full five rounds if necessary, he is a tough fight for anyone in the 135 lb division. Roberts is a grizzled veteran and comes into the championship bout having won a title with a different organization and bringing with him a ridiculous grappling game. Roberts will not wilt under the bright lights and in fact will pour kerosene on this explosive title fight. This will be a fight of two world class MMA athletes and the winner will be the kingpin of the bantamweights on the regional scene. Expect a barnburner as these two won’t quit.
In the co-main event, Mike Medrano (11-10) takes on Bellator veteran Darrell “The Saint” Horcher (7-1). Medrano is coming off a 30 second submission victory in his last fight and has earned the respect of the whole East Coast MMA community for his tenacious fighting style and willingness to take on anyone anytime. Medrano’s resume reads like a who’s who of Northeast stars and Medrano has held his own and then some in these epic battles. Medrano has a very dangerous and aggressive grappling game and he is always looking to end the fight if the action hits the mat. Look for Medrano to speed up that process by going for takedowns early in the fight. Horcher had a 3-fight stint with Bellator where he went 2-1 and has made a name for himself with his devastating knockout power having KO’d 4 of his previous opponents. Horcher will be looking to make Medrano pay with punches and kicks and this will be a great fight as both fighters are known for going for the finish.

Cage Warrior Combat 9 – Hayes vs Monson
Sat Nov 2 10:00PM ET
Hard hitting MMA action returns as CWC presents “Cage Warrior Combat 9 – Hayes VS Monson” on November 2 from the Showare Center in Kent, Washington live on the GFL Combat Sports Network. CWC events are the premier MMA shows in the Pacific Northwest as they are the proving grounds for tomorrow’s future stars and champions as well as a place for established legends to continue their careers. This 13-bout card is anchored by a main event and co-main event that features several top ranked MMA fighters including a former UFC Champion and #1 UFC Contender.
In the main event, former #1 UFC Contender Jeff “The Snowman” Monson (49-16-1) fights Bellator veteran Mike “300” Hayes (18-8-1). Monson is one of the most decorated American grapplers in history and brings a wealth of fight experience into the cage. Monson has fought for every big organization in the world and has defeated multiple world ranked heavyweights including Roy Nelson, Aleksander Emelianenko, Ricco Rodriguez and Kazuyuki Fujita. Look for Monson to use his years of experience and capitalize on any little mistake Hayes makes with a submission attempt. Hayes is a well-rounded fighter who throws leather with bad intentions and also has a solid grappling game to go with it. Hayes will probably look to strike with Monson and keep the fight a standup war because Monson will have the edge if it hits the mat. With these two proficient warriors going to battle inside the cage, anything can and will happen.
In the co-main event, former UFC Heavyweight Champion Maurice Smith (13-13) returns to the cage to face Matt Kovacs (6-11). No striker in the early days of MMA had more influence in changing the game than Smith. Smith showed that striking was indeed a needed and necessary piece to the puzzle of crafting a complete MMA fighter as he won the UFC title from Mark Coleman in 1997. Smith has squared off against such cage legends as Randy Couture, Bas Rutten, Ken Shamrock, Tank Abbott, Renzo Gracie and more. Smith showed he was still a top striker when he dismantled another pioneer of early MMA when Smith KOâ??d Marco Ruas at an IFL event in 2007, ten years after winning the UFC title. Look for Smith to test Kovacs chin early with jabs and body kicks. If a head kick is open, Smith will look for it. Kovacs is built like a brick house and brings a solid wrestling game into the cage. Kovacs will no doubt look to get the fight to the ground where he can close the distance and try to work some ground and pound from the top position. Expect someone to get knocked out in this fight as it will be a barnburner.

Lavine will definitely be the crowd favorite and would like nothing more than to take this Title back to Independence, Kansas but Brown is a very seasoned fighter and tough as nails. He’s looking to add a third championship belt to his collection. Lavine looked very impressive winning FOTN at “ShoFIGHT: VINDICATION” last month in Kansas. Brown also looked impressive with his finish of George Still in the first round at BRAWL INC 3 back in August. This should be a very high paced fight between the top two Lightweights in the BRAWL INC rankings. It’s anyone’s fight.

ShoFIGHT Heavyweight Championship: The Main Event showcases ShoFIGHT SHW Champion Josh “the Hulk” Faries entering the ShoFIGHT Heavyweight Division as he battles for the vacant Title versus Travis Kelly. Humphrey currently holds the BRAWL INC Middleweight Belt, which he won at BRAWL INC 3 from Kevin Parker, the same fighter Shawn Tiger defeated at ShoFIGHT in October to become LHW Champ.
