scott smithScott “Hands of Steel” Smith was in the ProElite forums this afternoon and I had the chance to ask him a few questions.

Smith is one of the ten lucky fighters competing on the main card of EliteXC’s primetime debut event that has a chance to show one of the biggest audiences in MMA history his skills as a complete mixed martial artist. On top of that he will face Robbie Lawler in the first title bout ever broadcast on a major network television channel.

With 23 out of Smith and Lawler’s combined 36 fights ending via (T)KO don’t blink during this fight.

Scott’s most recent knockout victim was Australian, Kyle Noke, who felt the wrath of Smith’s hands only 7 seconds into the second round at EliteXC “Street Certified” in February. One of Smith’s most memorable fights was at “The Ultimate Fighter 4″ Finale where he knocked out Pete Sell with a perfectly timed punch after being nearly finished by a brutal shot to the body.

5 Questions with Hands of Steel:

RedSweat: Do you feel your underrated as a fighter?

Smith: Very. But I like to keep it that way. My ground game gets no credit but I’ve been doing bjj 4yrs longer than MT. Look at the guys I lost to on the ground some of the best in the world– Lutter, Herman, Terrell.

RedSweat: How does it feel to be competing on MMA’s first primetime network card?

Smith: It’s a dream come true. I’m gonna be a part of history. Not only the first MMA live on CBS, but first title fight on CBS. It’s an honor.

RedSweat: What is your game plan against Robbie Lawler?

Smith: Plan on keeping the fight standing and control the pace, make him react to me.

RedSweat: What do you do in your off time?

Smith: During off time I spend a lot of time with my kids (two boys). I work my training around my kids. I’m really family oriented.

RedSweat: What made you decide to get into MMA?

Smith: Just the love of competition. Wrestled in jr college. Went into BJJ, then progressed to MMA & fell in love with it.
